A Black rat is a rat that is not expressing any recessive coat colors besides Black (a/a on the Agouti allele.) Satin rats are carrying two recessives of the Satin coat type. These rats should be completely black all over - down to the nail beds and the bottoms of their feet, with a lush Satin coat.

Most of the Satin bloodlines currently in the Midwest are in Siamese lines, so our Black Satin line comes from that base. However, it will not be re-mixed with Siamese but continue to branch away from that recessive, among others.

~What Are Our Goals?~
The goal of this bloodline is to clean out as many of the recessives as possible through concentrated inbreeding of the line. By breeding the strudiest animals with the best conformation to one another, we maximize the good qualities of the line, while hopefully weeding out all color recessives by pet-placing those animals.
Eventually, the goal is to have a line we can breed perhaps once per year which will contain nothing but spectacular Black Satins who are carrying few, if any, color recessives. In that way, we can provide a perfect outcross for any other bloodline, who can take in fresh blood without having to worry about cleaning color recessives they do not want out for generations. Satin is a very desirable coat type, and a Black Satin with no other recessives is the easiest and best way to put it into a line that otherwise lacks it, without adding Siamese as is the current trend.
We're building up a solid bloodline currently out of my Siamese line, co-bred with the FarStar Rattery, to create this useful and stunningly beautiful line of rats!
